ANTS!!

Yep, I have ants in my house. I invited them in, in fact I purchased these guys. Sam and Andy are loving them. Below is a video of them. This is an ant farm by Ant Works that I bought from Edmund Scientific. I love how you can see the ants no matter where they are.

actually about school

Okay, this blog is called "Thoughts on Home Schooling" and all we've been doing is bragging about our board breaking. Well, Dwight is just reporting, but I'm bragging!! So, here is some school news for all those wondering if we're just breaking things all day long...

Sam is enjoying world history (SonLight core 6), geometry, and biology. We have been starting our day with "Tea and Poetry" where we drink some tea and read the poetry that is assigned to read that day. This has been a very good way to start our day. Starting the day the same every day is very comforting for both of us.

Sam is also going to a Spanish class once a week. It is not for credit or anything, more of a intro to Spanish. He is enjoying that. I am enjoying it too, because I get a chance to chat face to face with other homeschool moms.

Another change this year is that Sam has a classmate. We'll call him Andy. He's a fourth grader and his mother is home schooling for the first time this year. She has 5 kids from K to 10th grade as well as a 1 year old. So, Andy is spending his day here in order to lighten her load while she figures out how this is going to work in her house. He is enjoying his time here (he says it is quiet) and getting his work done well. Sam is teaching him his science (for $2 per day). It is fun to watch them read and study Andy's science book together.

So, now I have reported about how our home school is going and now I don't have to change the title of this blog to "Look How Tough Sam's Mom is!" or something.

Board Breaking Practice in Class

We are practicing for our Brown Belt test in December. This is the first time breaking wooden boards for most of us.
